Happy Sunday!
Last night, walking around Longwood Gardens, I was once again reminded about the importance of using light to transform an environment. At a time when it is dark out early and the news is filled with troubling stories, we have the power to bring light unto others, both with our actions and, in the case, of Hanukkah, how we display our Hanukkiahs and decorate our homes. Light has been a central theme in my writings, and I am often reminded of an old gift from a mentor of a lighthouse - we all have the power to help someone get through the dark.
There are great programs coming up that I have listed at the bottom of the email, but I want to focus on one aspect of Shabbat 100 coming up this week. We are bringing back our Challah Baking initiative for one week only. We have a number of families with individuals in quarantine this week, and we would like to deliver them a challah. In addition, we would like to deliver challot to those in our congregation that would like a connection. If you would like to receive a challah or to bake a challah, please click here. Our goal is to deliver over 30 challot this week. You will also be able to sign up for the other aspects of Shabbat 100, our initiative to get at least 100 households celebrating Shabbat together this weekend at that link.
With Giving Tuesday coming up, to be honest, right now TBH-BE can use some light right now as well. Our Matanah campaign is behind from where we need to be. We understand that. It is a really, hard year for many. We are so appreciative of those that have already signed up as Patrons or that have already contributed to our campaign, but if you are able to donate something and if you feel that we have been there for you over the past year, you can donate here.
I would be remiss if I didn't comment on one other form of giving light to others. Yesterday, it was a privilege to watch Estelle Benson celebrate her 90th birthday with the congregation and her family. It was lovely to see friends and family shower praise on someone that has been supporting our community for 60 years. Happy Birthday Estelle!
Stay tuned for an email about some of our special Adult Ed classes coming up. Two new classes this week. Wishing you a great week! If there is anything that we can be doing to help support you right now, please let us know.
