Dear Friends,
Those who have met Rabbi Avi Skorka understand the extraordinary person and figure he is. His personal and close relationship with Pope Francis, however, is not the only way to explain the value he brings to us. Although that connection began in Argentina, it has grown into a close friendship, one which has proved invaluable to the Jewish community. Beyond the role he plays as the Pope’s Rabbi, advisor and friend, Rabbi Skorka’s insights and perspectives are sought out by many others, in both the Jewish and Catholic worlds, for their wisdom, sophistication and depth. No where is the importance of Rabbi Skorka’s thoughts more obvious than in his most recent book, “After the Storm”.
Using the pandemic as a catalyst for important new thoughts and ideas, Rabbi Skorka’s book is a testament, not only to his scholarship, but to the careful and insightful lessons for people of all faiths. His ability to convey deep and important ideas for those of us who continue to struggle in the aftermath of COVID, makes his words and ideas accessible and important for all.
This coming Shabbat, (5/14), after services and a kiddush luncheon, Rabbi Skorka will join me for a conversation about his book. His comments and reflections will add to the impact of that which has been written. I hope you will join Rabbi Skorka and me for this special conversation. Please feel free to RSVP here.
Please note, tonight's in-person minyan and Pirkei Avot class will be delayed one week though we will be meeting for both online instead. Please join us here. (Meeting ID: 840 2551 5571 | Passcode: Amida)
I look forward to seeing you.
Shalom,
Rabbi Neil S. Cooper
