A Jewish undergraduate college student took a course in Psalms. After the first session, she wrote her parents and said, "What a pity that our religion doesn’t have poetry like this!”

Jews represent a small percentage of the world’s population and have always been so. Yet, even a small civilization can be the source of ideas and values that influence larger cultures. In these sessions, we will consider six ways in which Judaism had a profound impact on the larger society. This effect was not always acknowledged and some of the examples being offered originally evoked contempt and/or antagonism. Yet all, today, are respected and are so much a part of the non-Jewish world that their origin has been forgotten by many, even by some Jews.
