A new Shabbat morning service, which was introduced last year for TBH/BE families, will be meeting monthly in 2004-2005.  This service seeks to create an opportunity for parents and children to spend Shabbat morning together in a participatory, child-friendly environment.  Future dates for the service are November 13, and December 4.

We would like collect ideas from anyone interested in participating.   If you would like to get involved, contribute your ideas or concerns, or just want additional information, please contact David Oppenheimer.

Attention: Parents of Children born in 1995

Bar and Bat Mitzvah dates for the year 2008 will be assigned to children born in 1995*. There will be a Parent Information Meeting for you on Sunday, February 6, 2005. At this meeting the process of assigning dates and the various options will be explained. A letter with details about this important meeting will be mailed to you in the near future. If you do not receive it by December 15, 2004, please call Sharon Alloy at 610.642.4727 or Bonnie Benson at 610.649.3725.

*At TBH-BE bat mitzvahs are traditionally held at the age of thirteen, however, we recognize for some families it is customary to observe this tradition at age twelve. If this is your tradition and your daughter was born in 1996, please contact us.

Torah Reading Academy

Each week that Youth Services meets, Larry Kaplan will offer the Torah Reading Academy for students in grades 5 - 7 at 10:15 a.m.   Students will learn skills to read from the Torah, and will be able to have Torah parts for class services, regular weekly youth services, and eventually will be able to read more than one aliyah at the service when they become Bar or Bat Mitzvah.

Youth Choir

Under the able direction of Hillie Lidor-Inbar, the Youth Choir has begun its second season.  Rehearsals are on  Sundays from 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Participation in the Youth Choir is open to all Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El children, grades 2 – 7.  A copy of the schedule of rehearsals and performances in included in this newsletter.

The first performance of the year will be on the first day of Sukkot when the children will accompany Hazzan Rosner by singing a piece in the Musaf service.  Encourage your children to join the Youth Choir, and come to Yom Tov services to hear their beautiful voices!
